For many of us, switching one of our everyday appliances for something completely new is a concept we’d rather not fuss over, but with the kitchen now becoming more efficient than ever, isn’t it about time we brought our house up to date?

Unnecessary everyday costs in the home are piling up more and more every day, from heating bills to electrical costs, we all understand every penny wasted is just that, wasted. With that in mind let’s weigh up the costs between the kettle and the boiling tap.

On average the kettle costs 3p per boil, which of course if you’re an avid tea lover who also uses their kettle for cooking pasta and paced eggs, that ends up adding up quite a bit more than you’d expect for something we all take for granted.

In comparison a boiling-water tap costs just 3p per day to run, and of course includes the added benefit of being instant, perfect if you’re as impatient as I for that hot beverage.

On top of this, a boiling-water tap is generally more environmentally friendly for a couple of good reasons. First and foremost is the fact that most people tend to overfill their kettles with more water than they actually need. This of course wastes not only water but also the extra energy used to heat it, whereas with a boiling-water tap you only use what you need with the turn of a tap. Additionally, as far as energy concerns go the boiling-water tap consumes less energy than a 40watt light bulb and uses 80% less electricity than heating water on a hob.

Why waste worktop space, ruining your clean, minimalistic aesthetic with a potentially clunky kettle when you can combine the job of boiling with your tap? As well as saving surface space where your kettle would be, if you live in a hard water area like us, you will also be saving space on that Brita filter you’ve been using for your boiling water – this is already built into the boiling-water tap!

So let’s make kitchen life simpler, let’s cut costs and let’s take steps to conserve the environment all the while saving space in your home.
